Two Days in Buenos Aires Before Your Cruise

The Casa Rosada presidential palace on Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires

Extra Days · Arrive December 18 or 19, 2027

The required arrival is December 20, which gives you one evening. Fly in two days earlier and the city becomes part of the trip.

December 19, 2027 is a Sunday

That matters. On Sundays the San Telmo fair fills Defensa Street with antiques, food stalls, buskers, and tango dancers. It runs for blocks through the oldest neighborhood in the city.

Arrive Saturday December 18 and you have all of Sunday for it.

Where to stay in Buenos Aires

Recoleta puts you within walking distance of the cemetery, El Ateneo, and good restaurants, on quiet streets.

Palermo is the food and nightlife neighborhood, with the parks nearby.

Puerto Madero or Retiro puts you closest to the cruise terminal on boarding day.

Any of the three works. Buenos Aires taxis and ride apps are cheap and plentiful.

Sunday, December 19

Morning at the San Telmo fair.

Afternoon at Plaza de Mayo, ten minutes away, with the Casa Rosada on one side and the cathedral on the other.

Late afternoon at Recoleta Cemetery: four city blocks, roughly 4,800 tombs, and Eva Perón’s family vault.

Dinner at ten, because that is when the city eats.

Monday, December 20

Morning in La Boca to see Caminito and the painted houses, then back downtown.

Midday at Café Tortoni on Avenida de Mayo, open since 1858.

Afternoon at Teatro Colón, which opened in 1908 and seats about 2,500. Guided tours run through the day and last about fifty minutes.

Early evening at El Ateneo Grand Splendid, a 1919 theatre turned bookstore, eight blocks from the cemetery.

Then sleep, because tomorrow you board.

Heat and dinner hours
